General Discussion / Warbirds Gathering - 17 Sept 2017
« on: April 27, 2017, 11:33:42 AM »
Good Day all

This years KRCM Warbirds Gathering will be held on Sunday 17 Sept from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

The intent for this day is to have fun, fly and enjoy a good deal of bashing from the peanut gallery.

All types and era of military airplanes are welcome, for static display or for flying.  The definition of a warbird for this event is:  A Scale or a sport scale representation of a plane that was used by the military for training or for operations from WW1 to present, including military trainers.  The J-3 Cub will be accepted in yellow (they were used as trainers).  However the foamies Supercub and Fun Cub, or a trainer / stick plane with army markings do not count as warbirds.

There will be an attempt at mass take off at 1300 hrs.  This event is for .46 size warbirds, examples of these are the hangar-9 P-51, P-40, VQ Mustang, Hurricane and Yak, etc.  The aim of this event is to do a mass flyby, no aerobatics, just circuit flying while attempting formation

The theme for this year is bomber....

There are no registration or landing fees

Canteen will be available for lunch and other munchies as available

If you are interested to volunteer, just let me know

"Deadly Skies: Air War 1914-1918" at the Canadian War Museum

For those interested in the latest plans for exhibits at the Canadian War Museum, the official opening for the “Deadly Skies” exhibit will open this Thursday and run until the end of January.

What’s the big idea?
Deadly Skies explores the human experience of First World War aviation.

What is it about?
This exhibition brings to life the history of the first air war (1914-1918) through the stories of 9 people, from 5 different countries, who were involved as pilots, observers and civilians.  The stories are told primarily in graphic novel form presented on panels.

What makes this special?
•   This is an exhibition developed by the Canadian War Museum and conveys human stories through a graphic novel design;
•   It has an international perspective – stories are focused on people from 5 different countries, taking place in 4 different parts of the world, and other air services (German, Japanese, French, Ottoman) are also featured in connection to our stories.

As well, the Battle of the Somme will mark its 100th anniversary on July 1st. This will kick off another temporary exhibit that will run throughout 2016-17.  Next spring, look forward to the Vimy Ridge exhibit which will open in early April.

Now that the CWM is over ten years old (at its current location), there are plans for major renovations that will dovetail with WW1 commemorations.  Exhibits at the main gallery will change and a new focus on interpretive and interactive displays will be incorporated.  Some of you will be able to re-live your misspent youth from your sapper or infantry days in the trenches. For others, new exhibits of guns and cockpits will be of interest, as simulators will be added into the main hall where the tanks and guns currently reside.  These changes are expected to take place from 2016-18, dovetailing with the anniversary of the 3rd Battle of Ypres.  The current trench exhibit will also be significantly expanded, as it has been a favourite among visitors.

For those interested in trench warfare, WW1 exhibits will also include new displays on the evolution of gas warfare since its first use on the battlefield in 1915.

The Navy exhibits will also change, the new displays will enable you to explore life at sea with a new bridge exhibit.

General Discussion / Misplaced my plane restraint
« on: April 06, 2015, 02:54:41 PM »
I forgot my plane restraint at the club house about a week ago

Its a piece of green rope, with 2 metal fittings, and a red "remove before flight " tag, very distinctive

Anyone who picked it up, I would be greatful if you could return it to me

Thank you

This article might be on a website for "real plane and pilots" but it's content is fully applicable to RC flying and the transition from nosewheel trainer to tailwheel airplane

General Discussion / Open discussion

Evidently, this video show a spectacular crash, but what is really the cause ?

Open discussion,in aviation accident investigation, they don't look to allocate blame, but look for what were the leading causes

So, what's your point of view of the cause(s)
