General Discussion / Ron Chapman passed away.
« on: June 03, 2020, 12:52:07 PM »
Don't know if many would have seen this but RCC reported the passing away of Ron Chapman.

He was an inspiration to a lot of us old timers back in the 60s and 70s.

A master of many things.

This is a NIB kit with all parts there.

I bought this thinking I would build to go water flying but I have too much going on with other things.

I take what I paid for it.

« on: March 23, 2019, 06:00:07 PM »
Just go my latest Model Airplane News magazine.

They just voted the Graupner MZ-32 the best radio of the year.

They also voted the Graupner Droneball Sweeper the best drone of the year.

Good on you Graupner.

General Discussion / Re: Hammer coming down on Hobby King (finally)

"I wonder who's blowing the whistle, maybe Spektrum? "

That would be a good bet.  I think the thing that "pissed" me off was/is the phony FCC sticker.  It was quite obvious as there was no approval number.

I think the heat is coming from the FCC in the US and only applies to the orange radios.  One should not be using radios that are not IC approved in Canada.  Check out RCC for a discussion on that topic.

I said before and I will say again.  If you need MAAC insurance and you are not using and approved radio MAAC can use it as an excuse to not back you up.  Check out the RCC site about this.

General Discussion / Hammer coming down on Hobby King (finally)
« on: December 05, 2016, 07:47:37 AM »
In response, HobbyKing’s owner stated that HobbyKing is a small company that purportedly would “soon be ceasing operations entirely.”"

As I pointed out a long time ago you can get FCC stickers at the Pacific Mall.  Phony ones of course.

General Discussion / Re: 2.4 Info
« on: March 07, 2015, 06:48:29 PM »
"A 2.4 receiver cannot "see" a signal from any source not bound to the receiver. That other signal on the same frequency never makes it past the gate."

I am still waiting for Horizon to answer a question about this.  I taxied my Yak back to the flight line during one of the IMAA meets a few years back and I turned off my Tx first, which I usually never do.  It happened that Kevin S. was checking his control surfaces and all of a sudden my airplane started going nuts.  It was responding to Kevin's radio!  Both radios were JR.  This should NOT happen given the GUI gating that Horizon claims.

Larry has posted his pictures of the IMAA event.  He sure does a nice job of catching those moving targets.

Span 88in. Powered with a Saito 150 with an 18 X 6 Xoar prop, Graupner/SJ MC-20 radio.  Covered with Ultracote aluminum and painted with Rustoleum Painters Touch Hunter Green.  Thanks to :D the Sport and Vintage Aviation Society in New Zealand who sent me the image of the crest.  I was lucky enough to fly in the real one while on a visit to New Zealand.  Great memories.
