First Flight of Brian Perkins' SE5A - 12 Photos
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:01:14 AM »
Here are 12 snapshots taken April 25, when Brian's SE5A flew for the first time.

This 26.5% model has an 85" top wing, weighs 21 lbs and is powered by a Saito FG 33 c.c. 4-stroke engine. It was hand-crafted over a 20 year period and took first place in Designer Scale at last years' Weak Signals show in Toledo. I'm told that one of Dave Platt's planes came second, which puts that in perspective.

It is the first plane Brian has ever built that he did not test-fly himself. Rolly applied a lifetime of aeronautical knowledge and flying skill to the take-off and landing, with Brian taking over at altitude.

This first flight was a dramatic, historic and happy occasion in Brian's life, shared by his wife and his flying friends.
