Magnum Reloaded
« on: April 05, 2016, 11:05:11 AM »
This is a great plane which can be built in several styles and materials, or bought as a kit. There's tons of stuff on the net about it.
I took the easy was and got the parts from Deerslayer, and glued them together. Today I'll be putting the control stuff on it. Here's an interim photo:

Flies like a dream, make struts of flexible material, otherwise great!

I told you, Reg! She's a great little plane. Many hours of good fun yet to come.

For anyone else wanting to "move up" to one of these, I have fuselage templates available to use in cutting foam for one. Meanwhile, why not slide over to the Magnum Reloaded thread:

I'm finding the struts are very fragile, thinking of shortening them.

As you noticed yesterday, Reg, my Magnum has VD (Variable Dihedral). She really does like to bend those wings - I think we saw almost a half-circle during a loop. Yet, she flies like a dream, even in those rather pesky winds. Good machine, everyone should have one!

For anyone wondering what we are talking about:

I have termplates to create the Magnum, Reg's was cut from them.

It is amazing that it flew like that, Gord and I were waiting for it to fall off! I put a split bamboo skewer as a rounded LE and it keeps the wing (2 layers of 6mm $store foam) nice and stiff. I'm still learning to fly it, yesterday had it going backwards. If I were to build one for indoors I would make it a lot lighter, use different foam for the body (blue stuff breaks too easily)
What happened yesterday, you disappeared?
