Fokker DVIII Build Maiden!!
« on: October 28, 2017, 08:28:05 PM »
I won a 1/3rd scale Fokker DVIII at this years giant scale and have decided to build it. I decided to do the wing first as if I screw this part up there's no need to continue...lol  :P  The  DVIII has a unique wing in that it is flat on the top and tapers on the bottom so it is recommended to build the wing upside down I used an old hokey stick and some weights to keep things aligned while gluing, hey it worked. lol  :P  other than that it's pretty straight forward, the wing is split in the middle so you build one panel at a time, so far so good but man this thing is big.   :o :o 8) :P ;D

Good work D. Nice too see someone actually building with balsa and fabric. This will be a nice airplane, for sure. I have seen the full scale replica fly at Rhinebeck and it is an amazingly fast, quick to maneuver and sharp looking machine.

BTW, how do you keep such a neat work area?

Ok I'm going to share a little secret passed down to me by an old photographer type guy. When shooting pics of your builds, move the junk so it's no in the shot.  :P ;D 8)

That's easy for you to say - I would have to shove my stuff out the door and into Lake Ontario!

You are doing a nice job, D.

She will be a very nice machine. The full scale one at Old Rhinebeck is a wicked performer and the occasional DVIII large models that have shown up here are terrific flyers.

It warms my tiny heart to see Members of our club actually building kits, it seems to be a rarity these days.

One comment: I notice that very comfy looking chair nearby. I hope your beer fridge is kept at a great distance, else we may never get to see a completed project. Come to think of it, perhaps that is why I have a pile of uncompleted projects here in the Cave.

Thanks Gary, it sure is a lot of work, I had to enlist the talents of Harold the bender as I don't have a bender big enough to bend 1/4 inch music wire...lol Other than that it's been pretty straight forward but soooo big...lol    :o :o
The beer fridge is behind the bar, I hardly sit in the chair, after a few beers it;s the couch for me.  :P ;D

Very nice!  :D  :D

Unsolicited advice:

Make nice with Brad, there is a lot to be gained there. Wifey bought him a spiffy new trailer, and he has it all gussied up to carry big toys. His day job will be getting in the way of Fun Time as soon as the weather improves. So, get yourself a trailer hitch and grovel - he may take pity on you  ;D

Getting serious now, she's on her wheels, won't be long now.  ;D 8) :o

And a big thank you to master welder Harold, they're perfect buddy.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So what's a person to do when the weather is bad and the car is a block of ice? You finish the DVIII's landing gear.  ;D 8) :D
